Facing Giants

For many, the challenge is overwhelming right now, and the giants we face may be bringing us to our knees.

It’s hard to see that as a good thing, but it’s on our knees where we remember where our hope lies and where our strength comes from.

That’s the focus of this poem:

“Facing Giants”

We all face giants, we all face fears,
We all get anxious, we all shed tears,
We all have issues, we all break down,
We all feel empty, no strength is found.

When faced with giants and great despair,
When brokenness seems beyond repair,
There is a refuge, where we find peace,
With trust in God, to Him release.

In our darkness, we find God’s light,
We feel Him stepping into our fight,
We find new strength that comes from Him,
And with His help, we rise again.

We cannot win when we fight alone,
But God is with us, and He has shown,
He will not leave us, He fights for us,
Through our faith we’re victorious.

In thinking back now, some of my richest blessings and my greatest joy occurred in both facing and overcoming the daunting issues of my life.  They took me to my knees, for sure, but from my knees I felt most connected to the Lord, and with that connection and dependence, He pulled me up, pushed me forward, helped me overcome, and then grew my faith through it all.

One thing I’m still learning though – my desire for victory over the giants may not have aligned with the Lord’s definition or intention of victory.

I can see victory now that I didn’t perceive as victory then, and I’m thankful now for things I should have been more thankful for then.

Most important though, I’m thankful for His victory!
