My Prayer
I pause and pray so much more today than in the past, to address my anxiety, to share my burdens, to ask for guidance, to seek God’s will, or just to share my joy.
In that time of prayer, in knowing that I’m not alone and in believing that my hope and strength come from the Lord, that’s when I find peace and I can step forward in that moment with confidence and comfort that I otherwise may not have.
In thinking about prayer and being thankful for those prayerful moments, this verse came to mind and then the poem followed:
“My Prayer”
Quiet my restless heart, O Lord,
focus my thoughts on You,
help me to pause for You, O Lord,
and give You rightful due.
Purge the thoughts and acts, O Lord,
that block my heart from You,
open me up to You, O Lord,
and all of me make new
Align me with Your plan, O Lord,
my trust I put in You,
thy will be done with me, O Lord,
I’m here for You to use.
I’m thankful for Your gift, O Lord,
Your love so warm and true,
that pardons me from sin, O Lord,
whenever I fail You.
Mold me, shape me, fill me, Lord,
make me helpful to You,
Your light to shine so bright, O Lord,
for those still lost to view.
My hope is tied to You, O Lord,
my doubts you do subdue,
I feel You here now with me, Lord,
Your strength will pull me through.

I’m no longer surprised when I pause in prayer and find those moments of peace, but I’m also finding that if I’m prayerful more often, that sense of peace stays with me and is more like a companion to me as I journey on.
I think we all need that divine peace that transcends all understanding.
