Ask Believing

I’m remembering my Dad on this Father’s Day.

I wrote this poem based on a lesson he wanted me to learn about praying believing, and the miracle that happened which gave us a bit more time with him before he was called home to his eternal celebration:

“Ask Believing”

My Dad was sick, we rushed to him,
It all looked lost, was really grim,
We raised our prayers, but doubts were real,
I didn’t think that he would heal.

We went away, still praying hard,
Planned for the worst, I saw the scars,
I hoped the Lord would hear my plea,
But resolute, for what would be.

We got the call on the next day,
“He’s back with us, the doctor’s say”,
A miracle, is what they claimed,
More time with him is what we gained.

When he came back, he asked of me,
“Could it be you, that did believe?”
I quickly said that I did doubt,
And candidly thought he checked out.

He said that someone prayed in faith,
And did not doubt, and thus the grace,
With added time, he then could share,
God’s love for him, through answered prayer.

I learned from Dad to ask believing,
To pray in faith, with hope increasing,
To not let doubt keep tossing me,
But trust the Lord His will to be.

As I continue to learn, I continue to remember the things he reinforced with me and the constant encouragement he gave to know God more and to trust in the Lord.

In those many times I’m a bit confused on elements of faith, I miss him even more.

So sharing my memories of him with you on this Father’s Day.
