Builder

For all of us who build anything – families, businesses, careers, foundations, futures – this one is for us.

When we get absorbed in accomplishing something, it’s easy to get lost in designing, creating, and executing whatever that may be.  And it’s easy to think that what we’re doing begins and ends with us.

But Hebrews 3:4 reminds us that all that we do and anything we build is directly tied back to the One who built us:

“Builder”

I sit back now with lots of pride,
In awe of what I’ve done, wide-eyed,
Taking credit for this creation,
Feeling good with great elation.

But then I pause and realize,
That all I see with my own eyes,
Comes from our Builder, not from me,
Our Source for all, ultimately.

My pride now turns to gratitude,
As He adjusts my attitude,
All that I have, the Lord provided,
His handiwork, His love ignited.

I’m thankful for His sovereignty,
His creative authority,
I’m designed and built in His grand plan,
I’m here to be His helping hand.

He’s the builder of everything,
I’m part of what He’s creating,
It’s His design, His architecture,
My submission and my labor.

When we drift into self-focus, His Spirit faithfully pulls us back to His truth…all that we have and all that we do is from, of and for Him.

And it’s in that moment of response that we can sense the Lord’s pleasure and we can gain peace…not because of what we’re working on, but because of our hearts – acknowledging His calling, being grateful for the opportunity to build with the resources He provides, and prioritizing Him in our labor again.

A worthy goal for us all – to let the Master Builder shape our hearts, guide our steps, and direct our hands in all we do.
