Doubts
Do you experience doubt in your faith?
For me, the longer things take, the more dire things get, the more isolated I feel, then the doubts take root.
Doubt can at times paralyze me, holding me back from doing those things I know the Lord wants me to do.
I’m so thankful that I’m not alone in experiencing doubt, and thinking of that led to this:
“Doubts”
I wonder if You really hear,
I also wonder if You’re near,
I wonder why You care for me,
I wonder if You really see,
I wonder if I’m good enough,
I wonder if I’ll be rebuffed,
I wonder if I’m really saved,
I wonder if my name’s engraved.
The voices in my head just grow,
They’re asking me to really know,
To walk by sight and not by faith,
Have answers now, not be delayed,
They ask about Your faithfulness,
They question if I’m really blessed,
They say there’s no relationship,
And show flaws in Your craftsmanship.
I seek You Lord to hear Your voice,
Fall on my knees to stop the noise,
Cry out to You, repeat Your name,
Release to You all of my shame.
I see You there, I hear You shout,
“Oh child of mine why did you doubt?”
“Remember what I’ve done for you!”
“Crush those doubts and be renewed!”
I feel Your love, my hope returns,
I know You’re near, my faith now burns,
Your Spirit is inside of me,
Your goodness is all that I see.
I match my doubts now word for word,
With all the truth that I have heard,
The doubts no longer have a voice,
With praise to You I do rejoice.

I think many of us would have grown in our faith believing that doubt was a lack of faith. But I’m so thankful for the myriad of examples throughout the Bible of notable people of faith having doubts too.
What I’ve learned and what I love is that doubt, much like adversity, can strengthen our faith as we work through those doubts and anchor back on God’s faithfulness and promises.
So thankful for God’s grace even in my doubts.
