Enter the Silence
In the drama and trauma of life, God invites us to enter the silence…to get away from the noise and the pressures we face, to rest in His presence, and to be strengthened for what’s ahead.
This poem is my journey…knowing about the silence, resisting it for much of my life, and then discovering through His grace what a gift and blessing it truly is:
“Enter the Silence”
…God waits for us in the silence…
Our Lord showed us how to enter the silence,
He went by himself to pray,
He trusted His Father and His divine guidance,
He listened for what He would say;
He trusted God’s words with unquestioned reliance,
He modeled then how to obey,
He leveraged God’s strength for needed resilience,
I’m saved by His grace today.
…but I resisted…
I made it so hard to enter the silence,
I wanted to do things my way,
I relied on myself in stubborn defiance,
my arrogance on full display;
I rebelled against any form of compliance,
To the enemy I fell prey,
I drifted into an unholy alliance,
God’s love I often betrayed.
…but God waited for me in the silence…
With guilt and in shame, I then entered the silence,
Remembering how I should pray,
With heart that was humbled and in full repentance,
God did not turn me away;
He pulled me in close, made me aware of His presence,
He showed to me love not dismay,
He then filled me up with His blessed assurance,
and put me on His righteous way.
…in the silence Hope appeared…

God promises that when we enter the silence with a contrite and surrendered heart, hope meets us there. In His faithfulness, the silence becomes a place where He restores, revives, and renews us…preparing us to step back into the noise and challenges of the world with His hope pulling us forward.
As we continue to talk and walk with the Lord, something even more beautiful happens – entering the silence becomes less about escaping the overwhelming clamor of our lives and more about stilling our hearts and welcoming Him into every moment.
It’s through faith and with hope in the Lord that we can then step forth in peace.
