Loudest When Still

There are many moments in our lives when we want the Lord to speak loudly, break through the noise of this world, and respond to our concerns in unmistakable ways.

And sometimes He may!

But in divine irony, scripture tells us that our all-powerful, all-knowing, ever-present God, who if He wanted could shout from the mountain tops, often sounds loudest when we still our hearts and listen for His whisper.

So, what if the voice we’re longing for is waiting in the stillness?

When we trust God enough to give up control, our hearts begin to quiet.

With quiet hearts, we tune into that whisper we’ve been missing.

And when tuned in, His voice breaks through all the noise around us.

In that still moment, we find the peace we’ve been desperately seeking.

May we each find that peace!

In my concern I seek Your face,
So desperate for Your love and grace,
I want to clearly hear Your voice,
Shouting at me through all the noise.

But all I find is silence speaking,
Your response to my desperate seeking,
For You just want me to be still,
And trust this moment to Your will.

I quiet down and calm my heart,
I yield to You and do my part
To squelch the noise and tune You in,
I sense You near, find You within.

In the quiet, I hear Your voice,
You comfort me and I rejoice,
I’ve finally learned You’ll be the loudest
When my heart becomes the stillest.
