Sit Still

I spend a lot of time trying to sit still.

Oh my gosh it’s hard.

The noise accelerates as the challenges grow or the decisions need to be made.

The desire to still the heart gets overcome by the noise.

And yet I know it’s what the Lord wants me to do:

“Sit Still”

I walk away, focus on me,
Follow temptation, think it can be,
All that I want to set me free,
But it is all futility.

In my despair, I hear a voice,
Reminding me, I have a choice,
To follow truth or yield to noise,
Turn back to God and then rejoice.

As I sit still, I see His might,
He asks me to follow His light,
If I submit, He’ll make things right,
Follow in faith and not by sight.

I humbly bow, admit my sin,
I seek forgiveness, look to Him,
Feel a great peace, renewed within,
So thankful I’m restored again.

He is faithful and waits for me,
To just sit still, look up and see,
A different way that life can be,
The one true way, His victory.

It helps a lot to get away, to be in creation, to be awed by that creation, and to be disconnected from the external noise.

But that’s not always possible.

Finding triggers that create the focus and allow the stillness has been key for me…like a prayerful chant I do countless times each day.

And I have to believe the Lord smiles every time I chant and then rest in His presence.

Wishing each of us that rest!
